More and more we read about how experiences, memories and trauma leave traces within the body. The idea resonates with a lot of people, however, this particular concept ends up being somewhat abstract and is left to the individual to subjectively process. How is it that memories leave traces within the body, and how can these be described, or better, interpreted?

In line with my longstanding research of the human body, I tried to see how these manifest within the body. The result, a series of intuitive work based on elements of the human anatomy. From the onset it is clear that the objects depicted take on a fantastical dimension, bearing elements that both belong to the body as well as a fictional space. This space in-between, I find, can feel more real than reality itself, and this is what I am always looking for in my work.

The series consists of watercolours on paper and acrylics on canvas, with objects made from plaster, wood, repurposed packaging material and textiles.
